The Hyundai I10, A New Crown Jewel From Hyundai Motor Co.
The I10 is Hyundai’s new innovation in affordable vehicles, produced only in India, but distributed globally. In fact, Hyundai is so confident in the success of these innovative vehicles that they hope to double their city car sales to around 10,000 a year. The I10 was first released with a 1.1 liter engine known as the IRdE, which produced 65 horse power. It is also available with a 1.2 liter petrol Kappa engine, which has the same CO2 emissions as the 1.1 liter version. A diesel variant of the 1.2 liter engine is also offered.
The Hyundai I10 is an award-winning vehicle, such as “Car of the Year 2008″ from BS Motoring and other big name magazines, including television shows and most of the auto media in India.
Measuring just 3,565mm in length and 1,595mm in width, this car will be easy to navigate through city traffic and fit in tight parking spaces. Do not let that fool you however, the I10 has room to seat 5 and plenty of leg room so that taller passengers will have enough space for comfort. With a 2,380mm wheelbase, the car handles a much “larger” feel to the driver and because the wheels are far in each corner of the vehicle, the car provides much more room for luggage as well.
Interesting enough the car only costs as little as $10,000, but does not look or feel as if it has been stripped of all value to retain a small price tag. Air conditioning has been made standard on even the base vehicle, which is new to this class.
Standard transmission versions of this vehicle are expected to get an average of 60 mpg while producing only 119g/km of CO2.
The I10 was produced to replace the Atos and is planned to be sold in over 100 countries worldwide.
